This Santa Rosa, California-based winery has a reputation for strategic engagement in government relations and regulatory activity in order to respond to change and support its ongoing business initiatives. In the Fall of 2006 through 2007, a lawsuit brought by Costco against the Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) was matriculating through the courts that had potential to bring significant change in the regulatory climate for wine. Through a prior relationship with Pete Downs, Kendall Jackson’s Vice President for Government and Industry Relations (he was a Board Member of WineAmerica while I served as the organization’s President), CoEfficient Consulting was engaged to monitor and report on:
- Presentations of arguments before the Western Washington Federal Court and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals
- Meetings of the WSLCB
- Public hearings of the Washington State Senate Commerce Committee
While the 9th Circuit Court rulings ultimately deflected the largest potential changes, there were important legislative changes made in response to lower court rulings. Through the process, CoEfficient Consulting provided Kendall-Jackson with immediate and accurate reports.
